15th October 2009

CHINESE and European tourists coming to London to take advantage of the weak pound boosted sales at fashion house Burberry, especially of its “hot” handbags and scarves.

Chief financial officer Stacey Cartwright hailed the “momentum in our brand” as she revealed a better-than-expected 5% rise in same-store sales in the quarter to September 30 – though US sales were down more than 10%.

Burberry shares rose 28˝p to 565˝p on the news.

Cartwright added: “Tourists coming to London know our trench coats will last for 20 years.” Harry Potter star Emma Watson, 19, shows they look great too.
