SHAME OF THE MOD

IT is the ultimate insult.

Our brave troops put themselves in the firing line for Queen and Country.

They are woefully short of vital resources in Afghanistan and all the while the death toll is rising.

So how does the Ministry of Defence respond to pleas for better equipment?

By handing out megabucks bonuses to pen-pushers back in Whitehall.

A massive £300million has been dished out to men in suits in just six years.

Some have pocketed £17,000 each – just a bit more than an Army private’s yearly wage.

Meanwhile Our Boys are desperate for better trucks, helicopters and more manpower.

Relatives are right to be angry as they watch while loved ones “make do” in some of the fiercest conditions.

And more and more of Our Boys are being wounded or killed.

The huge losses have led more Brits than ever to question why we are fighting at all.

This week the country stood together in silence and remembered those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice in the past.

Now the Government needs to give our troops the protection and resources they deserve to secure their futures.

It’s too little far too late

FINALLY, someone is taking immigration seriously.

And not a minute too soon.

After years of ignoring the issue, the Government has finally woken up.

Gordon Brown has promised to tighten the rules on skilled migrants and foreign students coming to the country.

He will bar hospital staff, engineers and other consultants from overseas.

But how will that help the country’s legions of builders, plumbers and electricians?

And what of the million-strong army of British youths now struggling on the dole?

Brown bats off predictions that the UK population will explode to 70million by 2029.

However, the immigration surge over the last decade has already put a huge strain on resources, from the NHS to schools.

And there is no evidence that the Government will address these issues.

This new vision for a future immigration policy is a start.

But more needs to be done now to ensure the country’s stretched resources are not pushed to breaking point.
