CHEERS FOR HOMEOWNERS

ABOVE: Two cheers for homeowners
16th October 2009

AVERAGE house prices are expected to grow by a modest two per cent over the coming year.

But the economic environment is so unpredictable that many areas could still suffer further falls before the market starts to recover properly.

While prices in East Anglia are expected to drop, the north of England and Wales are set for the largest growth.

Mandy Bradley, director of propertyforecasts.co.uk, says that reasonable increases in house prices of a little over  0.5 per cent look likely during October, with certain parts of the country expected to enjoy double that in the run-up to Christmas.

“Further increases in unemployment locally could also influence these figures, while the continuing housing shortage will be a positive factor affecting prices overall,” she explains.

“People buying houses at the moment need to do their homework.”
