PLANET OF THE APPS

ABOVE: The Open Table app lets you to find local restaurants using in-built GPS
12th August 2009

By Paul Vale

THERE are plenty of iPhone apps offering reservations at local restaurants.

Now BlackBerry users can enjoy the same convenience with Open Table, a hugely useful application for dining out, enabling you to find local restaurants using in-built GPS, search for a location and reserve a table.

The app is available to download now for free.

If you're looking for turn-by-turn navigation on your iPhone 3G or 3GS, Co Pilot has a new app available to download for a one-off fee of £25.99 (UK and Ireland maps).

This may seem a lot compared to other apps in the store, but not when you consider a standalone GPS system will set you back a couple of hundred quid.

Tom Tom is set to launch its own app sometime in the future with a rumoured retail price of £100.

Despite the result, Star Comm was very impressed with Sky's new iPhone App that offers live cricket scores and commentary when we tried it out for the recent fourth test.

Now there's a Sky Sports Football Score Centre App, available to download for free just in time for the start of the Premiership season.
