ALBUM OF THE WEEK - THE VIRGINS: THE VIRGINS
ABOVE: An album with a lot to love
17th April 2009
By Sarah-Louise James
DON'T be fooled by the double band/album title, this New York quartet are not Purity ring-wearing Jonas Brothers knock-offs.
Not for them a nice mug of cocoa and a good book, there's only one thing this lot want in bed and it begins with... Girls. Oh, and maybe, booze. And lots of it while you're at it.
But it's all fun and funky rather than sad and sleazy. The lads are all good-looking, young pups from one of the coolest cities in the world and this is the sound of a them in their cocky prime.

Partying, pulling, sexing and hanging out with the boys all get the lyrical treatment and the lads sound like a young Duran Duran meets The Strokes in the process.
With songs titles such as Rich Girls, Teen Lovers, Private Affair and She's Expensive, you pretty much know what you're in for - and it isn't existential angst.
But don't take it too seriously and there's a lot to love. You might even find yourself doing a little grind on the dance floor to it someday.
