HUBBY IS A SEX PEST
My 19-year-old son’s girlfriend has accused my husband of assaulting her.
She says that he pushed her into our bedroom while my son and I were at work and tried to have sex with her.
Now she’s talking about going to the police. My son has gone mad and dumped her. He says that she’s disgusting.
He insists that his dad would never do such a thing. My husband has begged me to believe his version of events, which is that she tried to have sex with him.
My mind is in a complete whirl and it feels like my whole world has been turned upside-down.
The thing is, I’m inclined to believe the girl. My husband has a history of this kind of thing and up until now he’s always got away with it.
First there was my old flatmate, who accused him of getting into her bed and trying to touch her. I told her she was daft.
He claimed it was all a big mistake. Then there was my chief bridesmaid.
She said he tried to have sex with her during our wedding reception. I blamed it on the drink and she’s never spoken to me since.
And a girl who used to babysit for us also told her mother that he tried to seduce her when he drove her home.
But if I follow my instincts and turn my husband in, I fear I’ll lose my son too. He adores his dad and won’t have a word said against him. What do I do?
JANE SAYS:
You say your husband has “always got away” with assaulting and frightening vulnerable women.
Do you think that’s right? What if his next target doesn’t fight back or speak up? What if he actually rapes her, or worse?
I understand that you love your son but you have to tell the police what you know.
Your gut instinct is leading you to believe that what this girl is saying is the truth. It’s vital that you now sit your son down and tell him everything.
Don’t pull your punches or leave anything out. Whether or not he chooses to believe you is up to him, but there can be no more secrets or lies.
