GERRO 'N NANDO IN WITH A SHOUT

ABOVE: Gerrard could still be in with a chance
7th November 2009

RAFA Benitez isn't ruling Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres out of Liverpool's clash against Birmingham at Anfield on Monday night.

Skipper Gerrard was given virtually no chance of being fit after lasting just 25 minutes in his single appearance since injuring his groin in England’s defeat in Ukraine.

But Benitez has been encouraged by the England ace’s progress after an injection and he could return against the Blues.

Torres has played on with his groin problem, scoring against Manchester United and Fulham to take his season tally to 10.

He flew to Spain this week to see specialist Ramon Cugat. It was suggested he would not need surgery but had to rest for three weeks.

But back on Merseyside, after a light session, there were hopes that he could face Birmingham.

England boss Fabio Capello and Spain chief Vicente Del Bosque will speak to Liverpool before naming the pair in their squads for the forthcoming friendlies.
