OCH: I OWE DENZEL

MADCAP Cincinnati Bengals star Chad Ochocinco has thanked Hollywood superstar Denzel Washington for saving his career.

Receiver Ochocinco, 31, is part of a Bengals team that is joint top of the AFC North after starting the season 3-1.

This weekend they face a bruising trip to the Baltimore Ravens, who share the lead in their division, with Ochocinco again expected to be the Bengals’ main man.

It is a dramatic turnaround for Ochocinco, who is coming off the worst season of his eventful career. He changed his name by deed poll last year from Johnson to Ochocinco, Spanish for “8-8,” his shirt number.

And his madcap behaviour off the field saw his game suffer on it.

However, Ochocinco is back to his best this year and thanked NFL legends Ray Lewis and Deion Sanders, as well as double Oscar winner Washington, for helping him.

He said: “Last season I was completely off track, my mind-set was not where it needed to be and I focused on the wrong things.

“My goals had changed and I let other things get in the way.

“But this off-season I worked my tail off and came back with the right mind-set.

“As far as advice, I’d like to thank Ray Lewis and Deion Sanders, but the third person who was most influential was Denzel Washington.

“Denzel and I have been talking week after week and he’s been keeping me focused, keeping my head right.”
