GLAXO'S SWINE FLU WIN

THE global swine flu pandemic and China’s efforts to prevent children catching measles and mumps are set to boost vaccine sales at drug giant GlaxoSmithKline.


Glaxo has won 22 more government orders for 149 m extra doses of its H1N1 swine fl u vaccine in the past two months, giving it 440 m doses on order.

Glaxo has said it expected to sell the vaccine for about the same price as seasonal flu shots, about £5 a dose, implying total booked orders of about £2.2 bn.

It also has several deals with the US government to supply pandemic products worth an extra $250 m and is in talks with other governments.

Glaxo is forming a £41.2 m joint venture with China’s Jiangsu Walvax Biotech Company to make paediatric vaccines against measles, mumps and rubella in China.
