CHEAP THRILLS

ABOVE: Martina Navratilova was rumoured to have made £200,000 from the show last year.
1st October 2009

CASH-strapped show bosses are being forced to make drastic cuts to this year’s series.

Although TV chiefs are assuring fans it will be “as rich as ever” in the jungle, behind the scenes they are having to be like Scrooge with their pennies.

With ad revenues down, it means an end to the huge fees for stars. Martina Navratilova, 52, and George Takei, 72, were rumoured to have bagged £200,000 each last year.

The first-class luxury flights to Australia have also been axed, and out go the expensive bushtucker trials such as helicopter stunts. Fans are worried the cuts could result in Z-list celebs.

One said: “Instead of having Robbie Williams, Lindsay Lohan and Pammy Anderson, we could end up with Roger De Courcey and Nookie Bear or someone from Bucks Fizz.”

ITV’s director of television Peter Fincham, 52, said yesterday: “I’m A Celebrity will be as rich as ever but there is pressure on our budgets.”
