AN ICE LITTLE EARNER

ABOVE: Ben and Jerrys have boosted sales
6th November 2009

By Daily Star Reporter

PUNTERS cooling down this summer by eating Ben & Jerry’s ice cream have boosted sales at Unilever.

The Anglo-Dutch manufacturer beat City forecasts with a 3.4% rise in sales in the three months to September 30.

It was a big improvement on the 1.4% rise it recorded in the first nine months of the year.

Chief executive Paul Polman said the sales rise had come across all regions and products.

And it was boosted by new products such as Ben & Jerry’s Chocolate Macadamia ice cream, which proved popular during the hot summer across most of Europe.

“Confidence is coming back but we expect a long, protracted recovery,” Polman said.

“Market conditions remain challenging. We will continue to increase investment.”
