GLORIOUS WETHER

ABOVE: Things are looking up for JD Wetherspoon
5th November 2009

By Daily Star Reporter

PUBS group JD Wetherspoon hailed an “encouraging start” to its financial year yesterday as it posted record first quarter sales.

The company, which has 738 pubs across the UK, reported a 4.5% rise in total sales in the 13 weeks ending October 25.

Same-store sales were up 0.3% but this marked a slowdown from the 1.2% growth seen in the first six weeks of the period.

Finance director Keith Down said: “We expect to see sales growth continue over Christmas as more people come out to celebrate.”

Down added that Wetherspoon hoped to begin talks with its lenders by the end of this year over the refinancing of its £435million debt.
