HAYE FACING SEVEN AND HELL

ABOVE: Haye is still seven stones lighter than his opponent
7th November 2009

By Kevin Francis

DAVID Haye will be giving away a staggering SEVEN stones to Russian giant Nikolai Valuev.

At yesterday’s weigh-in, Londoner Haye tipped the scales at 15st 8lb while Valuev came in at a whopping 22st 8lb.

It leaves Haye, 29, with an enormous task on his hands to take the WBA world heavyweight crown tonight but he said defiantly: “I know I can do it. The bigger they are the harder they fall and this guy is going to make one heck of a whack when he goes through the canvas.

“The weight difference doesn’t bother me. I am not worried. We always knew he was going to be significantly heavier.

“I could have put on another stone and a half comfortably but it would have detracted from my performance. I couldn’t have prepared better for a fight than I have for this one.

“I’m so excited I probably won’t sleep tonight. I know I can do it and I will smash him.

“My main advantage going into this fight is raw speed, agility and explosiveness.

“Valuev is a big lump, but he’s a slow and cumbersome lump.”
